Every Smart Medicure table is upholstered in Rexine, a coated fabric that is easy to wipe clean and comes in the colour you choose when you order. Looked after well, it stays smooth and comfortable for years, and the right cleaning habits matter as much as how often the table is used.
This is general care advice. Your clinic's infection-control policy and the instructions on your disinfectant come first.
Between patients
Cover the face piece and the table with couch roll or a clean cover for each patient.
After the session, wipe the surfaces the patient touched with a soft cloth dampened in a mild soap solution.
Wipe again with a cloth dampened in clean water, so no soap film is left to attract dirt.
Dry with a clean towel. Water left standing in seams and around the face hole is what slowly weakens stitching.
Wipe spills, oils and lotions straight away. Massage oils and some gels can soften the coating if they are left on it.
Disinfecting the upholstery
Disinfectants differ a great deal in what they do to upholstery. Before you buy a new product:
Check the label or the supplier's information for use on vinyl, PVC-coated or synthetic leather surfaces.
Try it first on a small area that patients do not see, such as the underside of an arm rest.
Use it at the dilution and contact time the label gives: stronger is not cleaner, and it is harder on the surface.
After the contact time, wipe with clean water and dry, so the chemical does not stay on the surface and build up.
What damages Rexine
Solvents and harsh cleaners: thinners, acetone, spirit-based polishes and degreasers strip the coating.
Undiluted alcohol or bleach: used repeatedly, they dry the surface until it cracks, often first along seams and edges.
Abrasive pads and powders: they scratch the surface and dull the finish.
Sharp objects: pens in pockets, belt buckles, keys and jewellery cause most small cuts. Ask patients to empty their pockets before lying down.
Heat and direct sunlight: a table next to a heater or in strong sun through a window dries out and fades faster. Leave some space, or use a blind.
A weekly five-minute check
Clean every surface, including the sides and the parts patients rarely touch.
Look along the seams, the face hole and the edges of each section for lifting, splitting or small cuts.
On a drop table, set and fire each drop to check it releases cleanly, and wipe around the drop mechanisms.
On electric tables, run the height from the lowest to the highest position and listen for anything unusual.
Check that the cable to the socket is not trapped, stretched or crossing a walkway.
When the upholstery is damaged
A small cut grows quickly once filling is exposed and cleaning liquid gets in, and a damaged surface is harder to keep clean. Protect a small cut with a cover until it is repaired, and call or WhatsApp us on +91 90995 42500 with a photo. Spare parts for our tables are stocked in Surat, and telephone support is free for the life of the table.
Choosing upholstery when you order
When you order a table, you choose the Rexine colour. Think about how it will look after years of daily use as well as how it looks on the first day, and how it suits the room. Tell us your colour preference in your quote request and we will confirm it in the quotation.
If you are still choosing a table, our electric osteopathy table and 3-section physiotherapy traction table pages show the upholstery and the full specifications.
